We each find inspiration for our prayers where we find it and not only or even always in church.

In 12 step programs the 11th step includes in part “Praying only for the knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out”. This has become my single most common prayer.

Years ago I was not happy in my work. It was not as challenging or engaging as what I had been doing but it was all I could find. My prayer was “God: put me where you want me, and make me happy with it”.

Why the last part, why ask for God to make me happy with His choice? Because I don’t believe that God wants me, or any of us to be unhappy. If we are truly following God’s plan for us we should be happy in the sense that we have His peace at all times.

For me one of the ways I know that I am not following my human will but following God’s plan is that I feel that sense of comfort and His peace. This doesn’t mean that everything every day is joy and sunshine but it does mean that I can always feel His presence in my life as I negotiate all those trials and troubles that are a normal part of life.

My prayer for each of you is that God puts you where he wants you and that he makes you content.

  1. “ . . . Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9, NKJV
Commitment to the LORD brings peace of mind. I prayed for Him to WAP me, but my husband didn’t think that “word” was a good choice. What I meant was asking for Wisdom, Ability, and Protection!

  2. Thank you Allen. I enjoyed reading about your prayer concerning placement and happiness. True. I believe … I pray that I will be able to share the happiness with a significant other. You know someone that will scratch my back and watch it too … love and honour returned! 🙂 Kelly
